Oncology and cancer fellowships span several clinical and research pathways. This guide connects 1,418 explicitly oncology-related training listings across 49 countries to their specialty and subspecialty directories. Counts describe listings, not confirmed open positions.
Start with your existing specialty and the work you want to do. Medical oncology, surgical oncology, radiation oncology, paediatric oncology and organ-specific cancer training have different entry qualifications and responsibilities.
Which oncology fellowship pathway fits your training?
- Medical oncology and haematology: compare combined training with advanced tumour-specific or cellular-therapy posts. The wider haematology directory also includes non-cancer blood disorders.
- Surgical oncology: check the required surgical background, operative curriculum and research balance.
- Radiation oncology: investigate focused post-specialty training in areas such as brachytherapy, stereotactic treatment or proton therapy; primary specialist residency is outside this directory’s scope.
- Paediatric haematology-oncology: compare child and adolescent cancer care, blood disorders, research and the accepted paediatric qualifications.
- Organ-specific or surgical subspecialties: explore gynaecologic, urologic, breast, head-and-neck, musculoskeletal and neuro-oncology topics below. Their entry routes should be checked separately.
Clinical fellowship, cancer research or observation?
A cancer research fellowship may focus on trials, translational science or laboratory work. It does not automatically provide clinical practice rights or specialist certification. A focused observership allows a different level of participation from a clinical fellowship. Compare appointment type, supervision, registration and assessment before applying.
MSK cancer fellowship directory illustrates clinical and research opportunities across departments. NCI surgical oncology research fellowship is a separate research-oriented route. These references do not establish eligibility at other institutions.

Oncology fellowship application questions
Is an oncology fellowship the same as a cancer research fellowship?
No. Clinical, research and observational posts have different goals and permitted duties. Confirm clinical responsibilities, supervision, registration and whether the programme leads to recognised subspecialty certification.
Which cancer fellowship can I apply for?
Start with the programme’s accepted medical or surgical qualifications and your intended disease focus. Then check international eligibility, language, registration, funding and visa sponsorship individually. A cancer-centre affiliation does not establish a shared entry policy across departments.
Are these oncology fellowships open now?
Directory listings are not confirmed open vacancies. Check the official intake year, closing date and application system for each programme. Programmes without a published deadline may still require direct confirmation from the coordinator.
